I was looking for quotes on newness and unfamiliarity; it is the first time I found such a lack of comments. That alone is interesting. So I teetered back to the next closest thing in my experience, anxiety. . . which seems to have a heavier, negative connotation in my mind. . .

"Anxiety is part of creativity, the need to get something out, the need to be rid of something or to get in touch with something within." - David Duchovny

ah, I moved on to a new thought, and a more resonant quote:

"For me, exploration is about that journey to the interior, into your own heart. I'm always wondering, how will I act at my moment of truth? Will I rise up and do what's right, even if every fiber of my being is telling me otherwise?"- Anne Bancroft

ruminating like jello before it molds . . .

“So many old landmarks have been set in motion that they have become misleading as guides." - Max Ways

Untethered

feeling untethered
like new spring seeds breaking ground
reaching out into new worlds

from part of interpretation of I Ching: 61 Chung Fu/Inner Truth

The wind blows over the lake and stirs the surface of the water. Thus visible
effects of the invisible manifest themselves.

"The beginning of knowledge is the discovery of something we do not understand."    Frank Herbert

“The longer I live the more beautiful life becomes. If you foolishly ignore beauty, you will soon find yourself without it. Your life will be impoverished. But if you invest in beauty, it will remain with you all the days of your life.” Frank Lloyd Wright

Releasing & Encompassing

I am culling books again today, 18 more books were released to new homes last time. Now another half dozen are on the way. I am enjoying releasing what I can, what I no longer want or need, or love yet know I will not read again.  . . . still marveling at so much stuff in my world. . .

The act is, also, bringing more of Rilke to me. Of the 5 books now scattered on my bed, 3 have Rilke quotes I see leafing through them. Is it that so many people are quoting him or am I just drawn to those who do? Moot point perhaps. . .

So. . .  these are his quotes and poem that found me today while snuggled under a teal blanket that came all the way from China . . . drinking Yerba Mate tea in a clear glass mug . . .

"I have faith in all those things
that are not yet said.
I want to set free my most holy feelings.
What no one has dared to want
will be for me impossible to refuse."

“So rescue yourself from these general themes and write about what your everyday life offers you; describe your sorrows and desires, the thoughts that pass through your mind and your belief in some kind of beauty—describe all these with heartfelt, silent, humble sincerity and, when you express yourself, use the Things around you, the images from your dreams, and the objects that you remember.  If your everyday life seems poor, don’t blame it; blame yourself; admit to yourself that you are not enough of a poet to call forth its riches; because for the creator there is no poverty and no poor, indifferent place.”

The hour is striking so close above me,
so clear and sharp,
that all my senses ring with it.
I feel it now: there’s a power in me
to grasp and give shape to my world.

I know that nothing has ever been real
without my beholding it.
All becoming has needed me.
My looking ripens things
and they come toward me, to meet and be met.
Rainer Maria Rilke, The Book of Hours
"Almost always, here — this moment — is pretty much okay, especially if you aren’t tightened against whatever’s happening in the present." - Jan Frazier

Easily Amused

“It's no wonder that truth is stranger than fiction. Fiction has to make sense.” Mark Twain

Overheard in the market on Easter morning, "Yes, but if you had gone to Sunrise Services, you would have been the only one there .  . . . well, except for the pastor . . . in theory the pastor would have been there . . ."

In the parking lot in Edmonds, WA, a mere 10-12 miles from downtown Seattle , 10 pm, "Wow can you believe that there is a market open way out  here in the suburbs so late at night, I can hardly believe it."

I decided to take a different route to work so I could drive by a lake, as I got back to the regular part of my part of my drive, I wondered what I had been thinking as I drove past Greenlake, and viewed both Lake Union, and Lake Washington from my normal driving lane on the freeway . . .

Heard at Whole Foods deli counter, "No we can't slice the cheese, we don't have a dedicated cheese slicer."

Heard on the radio commercial, Taco Time is offering gluten free items; and per their website:

If you're looking for assistance making healthy choices in your life, Deborah Enos, the Taco Time Health Coach is here for you. Whether it's advice on managing allergies, creative ways to eat great and lose weight, or a little help with our Build-a-Meal tool, Deborah is a coach you can count on.

hmmm . . .  fast food restaurant offering a health coach . . .

Luck, Life, Lake, Luck

“I wandered everywhere, through cities and countries wide. And everywhere I went, the world was on my side.” - Roman Payne, Rooftop Soliloquy

I went to a talk by Marie Manuchehri at East West Bookshop last night for her new book Intuitive Self-Healing. I was blessed to get a parking place right next to the store, had just the right change to pay for parking. When I went to pay for the class, I was told I was a lucky woman as I was getting one of the last open spaces. Waiting for the class, I picked a spot that ended up right next to where Marie stopped to talk with someone.

Then they started to call people in to be seated by the number on their ticket. My ticket had no number. Oh, so I will go last. The woman who registered me walked by, and asked what number is your ticket number? Oh, I didn't get a number, no problem. She looked at me, said, come with me, and ushered me through a side door . . .there I was not only not in line, but, also, with an excellent seat. Yes, I am lucky, blessed and grateful for all the miracles that crop up.

It was a lovely, inspiring class with practical advice from Marie who went from being an RN working in an oncology unit to doing intuitive healing. Many things it home including with conversation she had with a woman who wanted to move but it really wasn't time for her to move. . .( I did sign a new lease for my same apartment today though I think I should be buying a home) . . . Marie very simply pointed out the obvious that the time wasn't right to move, and she was just driving herself crazy be thinking she should. . . wasn't it possible she could just accept being where she was . . .just basic truth. . . I was listening . . .

Towards the end of the evening, she led us on a guided meditation. I was a bit puzzled when  she invited as us to let an image arise what I saw was the word Lake, not an image of a lake but in blue letters the word Lake . . .huh. . .

The class ended, I walked out into the store, and in virtually the type of print from the image in my meditation, there on a magnet:

Advice from a
LAKE
Be clear - Make positive ripples
Look beneath the surface - Stay calm
Shore up friendships - Take time to reflect
Be full of life!

I should add that I stopped for a bite of food Whole Foods, some yummy cooked Beef Brisket . . . as the store was close to closing, and the fact I am lucky, the gentleman said I want to give you a discount on this . . . I gratefully accepted paying $2.00 less a pound. . .

I am clear that I am frequently lucky. . .

The Second One Oughta Do It For Me

 from the Positivity Blog:

5 Questions That Can Help You to Lift Yourself Out of a Bad Day

1. Am I making a mountain out of a molehill right now?

2. Does anyone on the planet have it worse than me right now?

3. What can I learn from this situation and is there an opportunity here to grow in some way?

4. What is one small step I can take right now to get ball rolling and to start turning this situation around?

5. Can I just accept that this is how I feel right now?

Whole Foods Follow Up

I went back to our new local Whole Foods Market to pick up a sweet potato scone to share with a friend.  And I just had to check out what happened with the mislabeled banana muffin.  Well the label had been changed.  They have taken a black marker to the word wheat free.  So the sign is the same with only the two words wheat free marked out.  I had a random thought about making my mark in the world which collided with they thought about how could they just mark it out and not put up a new sign.. .

Me

From another magazine scrap found while clearing out folders:

The more I like me, the less I want to pretend to be other people

26 or 27 more books found their way from my home to Goodwill, along with a few other items. Another 10 or 11 waiting to make a similar journey. . .

I was surprised when I counted that I had already bought 20 books this year. . . that gave way to a borrowed design element. . . my bookcase has a new arrival shelf. . .

I just have been informed the lease on my apartment is about to be up again . . . on the surface, I am no closer to buying my own home than I was 7 months ago . . . however, my apartment is more of a home . . . looked at a condo . . . new, great price. . . easy road access, nice area, close to shopping. . .but it was visually hard. . .  it appears the project intended to have 3 separate buildings instead of one. . . I just don't think I could take the daily visual impact of pipes sticking up out of bare ground in the background.

I am enjoying the beauty of a basket with nothing inside it . . . a nightstand with one book on top . . .
silverware upright in a ceramic jar instead inside a drawer . . . I thought I could feel my mother smile as I traded out my beige ceramic mug for a clear glass one made the older Libby Glass Company. . . and I have enjoyed the beauty of seeing the different shades of teas as I drink. . . replaced my silverware with pieces I love, that feel good in my hand . . .and eating cereal out of smaller, clear glass bowls with a fresh goat milk from Grace Harbor Farms just up in Custer, WA  . . . Erewhon brown rice cereal with a touch of stevia to sweeten it. . . glass and stainless steel containers have replaced the majority of my plastic. . .oh, I am so enjoying the cleaner feeling after washing the glass as well as the lack of stains imbedded like well used plastic. . . little pieces of life and things   . . . settling a little further down into me. . . (chuckling here as I reflect on what I am saying so I must add)  . . . with the help of stuff

I found a new antenna that has promise for reception without cable or satellite . . . just a small catch . . .it needs a usb port which my venerable and beloved analog TV does not have . . . and, therefore I am perusing new TVs . . . well. that seems fair; it is the first time I remember being down to one TV for so long in decades . . . can you imagine as a teenager I actually had two TVs in my own bedroom. . . one sitting on top on the other . . . all I remember now for sure is that my Nana (grandmother) gave me the second one when she got herself a new TV. . . it is likely she gave me the first one as well . . . can there be TV genetics  . . . probably genetics influencing acquisition . . . guess thinking about empires that is way understated. . .

Reading my friend Jan's blog with a quote from Mary's Facebook on evolution and ancestors, thinking about Kathleen learning bout genealogy; as I was typing this a woman on the TV show, Person of Interest, says to her child, "We are all descended from kings ..." I miss the rest of the quote . . .

"The ascendant hand is what I feel most strongly; I am bound in and in with my forebears... We are all nobly born; fortunate those who know it; blessed those who remember."  Robert Louis Stevenson

I heard a story on the BBC that made me chuckle, apparently they are trying to have two pandas mate at the Edinburgh zoo.  They said the pandas appeared to know what to do.  However, the female pandas tail kept getting in the way.  So the zookeepers were using a long pole to help them move her tail out of the way. .  .
