Dilemmas - Part I

The world is full of dilemmas - where is my CD collection - why are some the mp3 versions on my desktop, some on of the laptop, some on the netbook. And it isn't it amazing I have 3 computers, 2 mp3 players, an old walkman, a cassette player, a smart phone. I still want my CD's. What AM I doing? listening to the radio. LOL. Sigh. Shouldn't such abundance create happiness.

Ah, I got it, it is entirely possible all the music is on my back up storage hard drive. Well, except for everything I haven't burned to a music library yet. Stick with radio for now.

Amazingly for the first time in my life I have only one TV. Of course, I can watch episodes on the computers. This leading up to the next dilemma no TV. Hmmm.

I have watched TV at least since I was 5 years old. By the time I was twelve, I had two TV's in my bedroom, one on top of the other. Sometimes I watched them both while I listening to music while I was doing my homework. What can I say, I drove my poor mother crazy. She knew I couldn't possibly do homework with all that happening. Oh, so very, very stubborn, she gave up many times to bringing dinner to me so I could finish my shows. God bless her. I do not do that at the time. But I did graduate from junior high with honors. Honest, mom. I really could study with all sensory stimulation better than silence.

Fast forward to a young working woman still an avid TV watcher, with a notion sometime doing others things would be better.

So here's one true story. As I had to pull myself away from the TV show to go to work, I thought God help (must have been an emotionally charged thought) help me I have got to watch TV. Off to work.

I came home from work, was greeted by my neighbor before I even went in the house. He had caught
two guys on my front porch who were in the process of stealing my TV. Ah, thank you for listening God, I guess. Sorry I wasn't clear.

It was quite amazing, they were only stealing the TV. They managed to get in through a closed window without doing a bit of damage. Amazing world.

So now altering the balance between myself, God and the TV seems a little tenuous. I did go days iwth no TV. But, I was off last Tuesday. I am pretty much never off Tuesday evenings. I just knew God wouldn't want me to miss NCIS. Lord knows he wouldn't want me to miss Person of Interest on Thursday with awesome John with superb fighting and weapons skills saving people.

So I am actually doing extremely well with sticking to all my spiritual practices. I have been happy to forgo daytime TV as other worlds, and movement have been more interesting. Imagine real life being more interesting than TV.

Did I mention the walking stick I picked up happens to the perfect size to use in place of a kayak paddle. Now I just have to look up the correct strokes.

Too funny just as I had close this post - song on the radio, "I ain't gonna do nothing TV, just sit back and turn on the TV - now is that the universe taunting me or what?

“If you think you’re good people, and if you are, how would you know? Is it something you always knew? Or was it something you found? Some people are naturally good at it […]. Is it worth trying to be something you’re not? Just because it’s right?”
Jen Wang, Koko Be Good

So by the way, I decided my TV times could be no longer than 8pm to 11pm, more likely only 9pm-11pm only shows I really like. Basically, that means I'll be watching 3 TV shows since I only have two nights off. (FYI Person Of Interest, Elemental, and Blue Bloods.)

So my answer to the Jen Wang quote (Is it worth trying to be something you’re not? Just because it’s right?”)
Nope.
